Our dentist, Dr. Kimberly Wright, may determine that you are a good candidate for veneers if you have cosmetic imperfections but your mouth is otherwise healthy. “Treatable” imperfections include:
The veneer is made from composite resin or dental ceramic-like porcelain. The latter option, porcelain, is attractive because it retains its beauty over time. It also resists stains better than other dental materials. While it mimics the properties of natural tooth enamel, it is also strong and durable with good oral hygiene at home and professional care at our office.
Veneers are applied mainly to the front surfaces of the teeth that are visible when you smile. Once placed on top of the prepared tooth and bonded or secured to it, each veneer covers up the chips, cracks, gaps, or other imperfections. We compare it to how acrylic nails may be placed on shorter or weaker natural nails for cosmetic enhancement and strength.
Since modern veneers are super-thin, very little enamel must be removed to “prepare” or make room for each veneer placed and secured on top of the tooth. So, it is a conservative alternative, especially when compared to other dental procedures, which generally require alteration of the natural tooth. This characteristic makes veneers ideal for patients with a history of tooth sensitivity or those who are concerned about discomfort during the process. As the preparation is modest, the procedure is not associated with sensitivity. So, little to no anesthetic is necessary.
Veneers at our office also look like natural teeth! They complement your skin tone and other facial features. They fit precisely and do not jut out, nor do they look overly big for your face or “plastic” because we use such an exacting approach to planning and designing them.
